How I'm 10Xing My Business With The Theory Of Constraint

Published 10 months ago • 3 min read

Hey there. Tim here.

I played disk golf for the first time this weekend. I had a blast. Have you ever played?

This week's issue is brought to you by The Copyblogger Academy. If you're serious about building a personal enterprise, this is the way.

1. The Theory Of Constraint

Last Thursday, I listened to a great podcast episode from Alex Hormozi.

I like Hormozi. He is really good at breaking down high level concepts into equations. I listened to the episode over and over again so I could memorize it.

I plan on writing a long form guide to go deeper into all the sections, but today, I want to talk to you about constraint. I think this will really help you.

Why Can't We 10X This Business?

No seriously.

Does the market share for your business exist? Are there enough customers out there for you to 10X? If so, then why haven't you?

Every business is constrained in some way. One of the most important levers for growth is for you to identify the constraints and then work to remove them.

My Biggest Constraint

I thought about this a lot over the weekend. As far as I can tell, the only constraint I have for Stodzy is lead generation.

  • My product / service is without a doubt the best in the industry.
  • I have an amazing team who are competent, organized, and results oriented.
  • The company has processes and systems that provide for seamless onboarding and execution of the service we provide.

My constraint is not the quality of the service, it's not the operations, and it's not the personal. My constraint is simple. I NEED TO GET MORE CLIENTS.

A Bruise To My Ego

This was hard to acknowledge because I have always been in charge of sales for my company. I'm proud of never missing a payroll, of growing year over year for 10 years, and of developing a great reputation in the space.

But the truth is this ...

If I want to 10X (and I do want to 10X) I need to increase the volume of leads, sales, and closes.

The Lesson

Now that I've explained my business, I want you to understand that I didn't lay this out for you so I could vent. I want to give you an example that will make it easy for you to find your own constraint.

Here are some more examples ...

  • Many freelancers are constrained by time. If you are personally providing the service to your clients, your constraint is hours in the day. How do you solve for that?
  • Many businesses that sell products work really hard to drive traffic to their site, but then don't convert that traffic to sales. How come? Why isn't your product selling?

This is an exercise in humility. Go through all the aspects of your business and clearly identify what the main constraint is.

If you can fix that glaring issue, then suddenly the world will open to you. Better yet, you can then identify the next constraint and work to remove that from your business as well.

This one concept lead me down a rabbit hole of data and shinning a light in the dark corners of my business that I was scared to look at.

Now that I can see the problems, the anxiety has disappeared. All that's left to do is solve the problems.

There is peace in clarity. I hope you can find it for yourself.

2. Yes, We're Talking About Threads

Threads set a new record by being the fastest company to hit 100M downloads.

The previous record was held by ChatGPT, which took 3 months to hit 100M.

Granted, threads is cheating a bit since they have leveraged their current Instagram audience, but it's still remarkable.

The best part?

The petty 5 year old battle between Elon and Zuck is heating up.

Elon is clearly tilted.

The whole thing is so incredibly stupid. Billionaire men in their 40's and 50's throwing shade at each other through social media.

What a time to be alive.

4. The Value Of Daily Routines

I'm a firm believer that success is a biproduct of repetition.

It's not that complicated.

That's why I live my life built around the idea of repetitions and routines.

5. It Was 4 AM This Morning

There is no downside to waking up before everyone else.

The mornings are calm, the coffee is hot, the kids are sleeping and my mind is fully focused on the task at hand.

Also, follow me on threads. :)
