$10M With LinkedIn Ads

Hey there. Tim here.

This week I learned that I've been living with a rusty piece of metal embedded in my eye. True story.

This week's issue is brought to you by The Copyblogger Academy. If you're serious about building a personal enterprise, this is the way.

1. It's Time For Me To Learn Advertising

I've been very proud (and slightly arrogant) about being able to say that I've never spent any money on ads. I feel like it's a cool feather in my cap and I like that I practice what I preach.

But, the time has come to bow down to the man.

I'm building out a sales team for Stodzy and after doing the mental exercise last week, I came to the conclusion that the restraint in my business is simply the volume of leads I am producing.

I need to 10X my lead gen.

Sure, I could do this through organic content creation, but I'm ready to pour gasoline onto this fire. Here's my plan.

Step 1 - Identify The Goal

My first goal is simple, I am using ads to to grow my email list.

There is a huge demand for content, news, and information within the behavioral health space. I see a huge opportunity..

To be clear, my immediate goal IS NOT to create a newsletter, but rather to build an email list to put prospects into a long term sales funnel.

My sales funnel will ultimately lead to this page, which is where people will book appointments with me.

The end goal for now, is to book sales calls. That's it.

Step 2 - A / B Test Ads

So far, I have an ad running that is getting a lot of clicks, but is hardly getting any email signups.

I've spent $90 and gotten 131 clicks.

But I've only generated two email signups.

I need to create many different ads within the campaign and A / B test which ones do a better job of converting traffic into email signups.

I'll get better. I have so much to learn.

Step 3 - Outreach and Meticulous Data Tracking

About 2 months ago, I started using close.com as my CRM. It's an awesome product. Keeping track of all my relationships and sales calls that originate from my ad campaign is going to be critical. The sales timeline for the deals I close is usually around a month and are typically very high value deals.

So creating a system for my sales team to meticulously keep track of everything is paramount.

Step 4 - Build Out A Newsletter For The Space

I've wanted to do this for years.

In addition, I'm jealous and inspired by the success that bhbusiness.com is having. It's one of those things where I feel like I had the idea years back and someone else came in and executed and capitalized on it.

There are so many products, events, new techniques, and brilliant people in the space. I think I could create an amazing newsletter to feature the businesses, advance the industry, help more people, and highlight best practices.

The End Goal

I want to hit $10M a year in ARR.

Honestly, I think I might be setting the bar too low as the numbers, the market, and the ability to add new products / services present a much bigger opportunity than that.

But I'll wait until I hit this benchmark to shoot for a new one.

In conclusion: I have no idea what I'm doing. I've never run ads in my life. I will definitely burn some money while doing this experiment, but I know it needs to be done and it's a valuable skill I need to learn.

2. Documenting Your Journey

My entire content strategy is based on one core principle.

"I don't give advice, instead, I share my experience."

I think this is why so many people say they can relate to my writing. I don't pretend like I know any better than everyone else. I simply try tings and then share what has worked and what hasn't worked.

I had a great conversation with Joe Casabona about this exact topic. Joe was kind enough to have me on his podcast, and I enjoyed our chat very much.

4. Competition Is For Losers

This is why I miss running so much.

When you're out there on the road, there's no one to cheer you on. You can quit whenever you want. You're all alone and no one is there to shame you or to motivate you to continue forward.

All you have is your own mind. It's you vs. you.

5. A Quick Note Of Gratitude

I want to say thanks.

Ever since this Copyblogger deal has gone through, I've had to put much more of my focus over there.

There were many times when I thought about discontinuing my personal newsletter, but the support and appreciation I get from you each week keeps me going.

I get anywhere from 20 - 30 replies each week. It means a lot to me, more than you know. It's why I keep waking up at 4 am every Tuesday to get this written and sent out to you on time.

I genuinely hope and pray that sharing my business experience with you helps you. I am on the journey, the same as you. The fact that you read my emails each week is not a responsibility I take lightly.

Thank you.

I hope you all have a great week. As always, feel free to hit reply and let me know what you think or if you have any questions I can answer.

Love you guys.

Talk to you next week.

Tim
